Detritus 2022

Detritus was shown alongside ‘Unnamed Saint’, ‘Relics’ and ‘Illumination at The British School of Rome in March. The drawing resembles the graves found in churches across Italy and Europe. The bodies of the dead are carved in the stone floor, so it appears that they are lying there. The costume is rendered, surrounded by ears walnut fragments, beads and drawn scraps of text. This text is the same used in the film ‘Unnamed Saint’ detailing the dismemberment and confusion of the unnamed.

Relics 2022

The work made during my Bridget Riley Fellowship at The British School at Rome 2021-2022 spanned drawing, costume, installation and video.

RELICS, documented below was installed for the March Mostra, composed of many elements: drawing, gold leaf, nuts, crowns and sublimation prints of CT scans, x-rays and scanned drawings within pattern pieces. It was also installed with the video UNNAMED SAINT, which incorporates footage of the work covered in ants, eating the walnuts. The crowns are antiques dating to the 19th century and were used to crown saints in religious parades.
